Poor attention to detail. In this field of study, one must always be looking at the bigger picture as well as the most miniscule of details. Sometimes those details are what makes or breaks a product.

Complicating the design. It is possible to overcomplicate things and bog down production or balloon the costs. Sometimes simple is best, the bells and whistles can come later or will not be needed at all.

Rushing any phase of a project. Rushing leads to all sorts of problems, from employee exhaustion, to even injury or death. When working on any project, take your time and you will create the best product that you are capable of making. If you have a deadline and reaching that deadline requires you to rush the project, you should speak to your supervisor immediately to either enlist more help, or push the deadline.

Using the wrong dimensions or not converting standard and metric units. Measurements being off by even 1 millimeter can be catastrophic, so be mindful of your measurements and whether they need to be converted.

Failing to perform customer service. Remember, you need to treat customers and clients with respect and try to cater to their needs. They have a vision for what they want, it’s your job to design something that meets their vision.

Being an individual. It’s okay to ask for help. Working as a team is often easier and more fun than working alone, so don’t be afraid to team up with people on a project.
